Lowcountry Player with a “Knack for Winning” Hits for $500,000

COLUMBIA, SC (August 15, 2025) – Talk about lucky. A couple of days after winning $500,000 playing the Lottery, a Lowcountry man won another $1,000.

“He has a weird knack for winning,” the winner’s wife told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. “He can give me a ticket and I won’t win anything.”

Over the years, she says her husband has won several $500 and $1,000 prizes, but the recent half-a-million dollar win was definitely the most exciting.

It happened early one morning at the Parkers store on Cane Bay Blvd. in Summerville where he bought a $10 Win Big ticket. He tried calling his wife to tell her they won, but she was still sleeping. So he texted her instead.

“I read it and thought it was $500,” she said. And she wasn’t totally surprised to find out it was a thousand times more than that amount.

“It’s been a running joke for a while that he was going to win big,” she said.

As for the couple’s plans for the prize money, they want to pay off their house.

Odds of winning $500,000 in the Win Big game are 1 in 1,500,000.  Two top prizes remain in the game.

Parkers #77 in Summerville received a commission of $5,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
