COLUMBIA, SC (April 2, 2026) – When an Upstate woman realized she won $200,000 playing Powerball®, she cried.
“It’s a lot of money,” she told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
And the reason why she bought the ticket is just as emotional.
The woman’s husband played Powerball® until he passed away last year. She hadn’t bought herself a ticket until a recent visit to the Stop-A-Minit store on S. Piedmont Hwy. in Piedmont. There she got a quick pick that came within one number of winning the Powerball® jackpot on March 26.
As for her plans for the $200,000 prize, “I put it away for retirement,” she said. “And I bought another ticket.”
Stop-A-Minit #7 in Piedmont was rewarded with a $2,000 commission for selling the ticket.
The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129.
