COLUMBIA, SC (January 9, 2026) – A Lowcountry woman’s Christmas stocking held a big surprise. Inside was a $5 lottery ticket from her husband. On Christmas morning, she scratched it and won $200,000.
“I was in shock,” the wife told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
She says she rarely plays the Lottery, but the gift of a Carolina Jackpot ticket proved lucky, winning her the game’s last top prize. Her husband purchased the ticket at the BP Gas Station on Boone Hill Rd. in Summerville.
The couple has big plans for the prize.
“We’re paying off our house,” the wife said.
The odds of winning $200,000 in the Carolina Jackpot game are 1 in 520,000.
For selling the claimed ticket, BP Gas Station in Summerville received a commission of $2,000.
