COLUMBIA, SC (December 4, 2025) – A Myrtle Beach man treated himself to a lottery ticket the day after his birthday and won $500,000.
The winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that he was out with a friend when he picked out the scratch-off at the Murphy Express on International Dr. in Myrtle Beach. He took the ticket with him and was driving when he asked the friend to scratch it. When his friend started laughing, he pulled over to see what was so funny.
He says he was more surprised than amused when he looked down at his $10 scratch-off and saw it was worth half-a-million dollars.
After cashing in the ticket, his feelings shifted to excitement.
“I have more opportunities now,” he said.
Odds of winning $500,000 in the My Money Maker game are 1 in 1,152,000. Four more top prizes remain in the game.
Murphy Express #8717 in Myrtle Beach received a commission of $5,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
