COLUMBIA, SC (August 6, 2025) – A Pee Dee lottery player got quite a surprise when she asked the clerk at the Refuel convenience store how much she won on her lottery ticket. She wasn’t expecting to hear $500,000.
“It was surreal,” the winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. “I asked, ‘Are you sure?’”
Both the winner and the clerk at the Refuel #67 store on S. Main St. in Darlington burst out in screams. The winner says the windfall off the $10 scratch-off will change her life.
And she’s not the only Refuel customer celebrating big.
Days later, a lottery player at the N. 5th St. location, which is less than 20 miles away in Hartsville, also took home a half-a-million dollar, top prize win. It was on a $10 lottery scratch-off ticket too.
What are the odds of that happening?
Each ticket had to overcome odds of just over one in a million. And the Refuel chain did it twice. First on a Money Madness Extra Play ticket in Darlington and then on a 100X ticket sold in Hartsville.
And the stores won too. Both locations received a commission of $5,000 for selling the claimed tickets.
