COLUMBIA, SC (June 24, 2008) – With a getaway to the beach already planned, Martha Allen was not going to let anything stop her from enjoying her vacation. The Grover, NC, resident packed her bags and left for the beach, knowing the jackpot winning MegaMatch 6SM ticket would still be waiting for her when she returned.
Two weeks later, on her day off from work, she claimed her prize. The winning ticket was worth $1,110,104. Allen realized she matched all six numbers (1, 2, 7, 19, 23, and 30) in the June 6 drawing when she stopped at her favorite lottery retailer the next day to purchase a Powerball® ticket. Allen and the manager of the Lil Store in Blacksburg where she purchased the ticket made the discovery.
The win was especially significant for the Lottery. The $1,110,104 jackpot was the largest in MegaMatch 6SM history. MegaMatch 6SM launched in February of this year, and Allen is the third jackpot winner.
“Ms. Allen’s jackpot is the largest of the over 307,000 MegaMatch 6SM prizes won to date,” said South Carolina Education Lottery’s Product Manager Carolyn Cabell. “Jackpot winners are usually eager to claim their prize right away, but there is no rush. Players have 180 days from the draw date to claim any MegaMatch 6SM prize.”
Since its inception in 2002, the South Carolina Education Lottery has launched more than 270 instant games and six online games. Currently, SCEL offers 39 instant games and five online games. SCEL produces an average of four new games each month in a variety of themes, play styles, and price points of $1-$10. During the past six years, the support the South Carolina Education Lottery has received from players and retailers is responsible for the General Assembly appropriating more than $1.74 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2008.
