COLUMBIA, SC (March 25, 2009) – The South Carolina Education Lottery’s (SCEL) Summer Escape 2008 Second-Chance Promotion is officially over and the final Grand Prize winner has been selected!
David Dickerson, of Mansfield, OH, is the lucky winner of the Grand Prize package that includes a Ford F-150® truck, a Carnival® cruise for four people, and 500,000 airline miles and is worth an estimated $64,000!
Asked what brought an Ohio resident to South Carolina, Dickerson told lottery representatives he was visiting relatives in Pelion last year when he played the Summer Escape 2008 games and entered the second-chance drawing.
“I’ve never won any prize before,” the winner said. “This is a great surprise,” he added.
The Summer Escape 2008 Promotion was an overwhelming success with more than 198,000 entries received. The promotion featured Air Escape, Land Escape and Sea Escape instant tickets, all packed with travel-themed prizes and cash. In 2008, Grand Prize events were held in Greenville, Fort Mill and Myrtle Beach.
Since the Lottery’s inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2009. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery was returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions and payment to contractors for goods and services.
