COLUMBIA, SC (December 21, 2012) – The town of Gaffney has been a lucky spot for lottery players.
Six lottery winners have come out of Gaffney in the past four months, all taking home at minimum $100,000.
The total lottery prize payout in that town has reached $900,000.
The run began in September at Sonny’s Quick Stop on S. Granard St. with the selling of a $200,000 scratch-off to a local man. On the same street this week, the Corner Stop #3 sold a ticket to another winner good for $200,000.
“I was in the right place at the right time,” the local man, who played at the Corner Stop #3, said.
A Gaffney woman who played her Palmetto Cash 5 numbers was in the right place at the Eastside Saveway on Wilkinsville Hwy. and won $100,000. And a Morrsville, North Carolina, man who pulled off the interstate at the Pilot Travel Center #435 on Hyatt St. found a lucky spot to play his numbers and win $100,000.
Two other local women also won $100,000 prizes. One winner called her mom from the parking lot of the Auto Stop on Cherokee Ave. to say she won $100,000 on a scratch-off. The other winner went into the Food Lion on E. Frederick St for a gallon of milk and left with a lottery ticket valued at $100,000.
The most recent winner has already picked out a house in town.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.9 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
