COLUMBIA, SC (February 17, 2022) – A Lowcountry lottery player isn’t working anymore long hours after winning $500,000.
“No more overtime,” he said.
The winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that he had gotten off work and was on his way to pick up some chicken when he made an impromptu stop at the Fuel Express on N. Hwy. 17 in Moncks Corner.
He paid $10 for a ticket and scratched it sitting in his car outside the store. Convinced he must be imagining things, he took the ticket inside the store and showed the clerk.
“The retailer looked at the ticket and told me to go home and not tell anyone,” he said.
Back in his car he called his wife to let her know they just won half-a-million dollars.
“I cried, and I don’t cry,” he said. “I still don’t think it has hit her yet that we won.”
The winner plans to pay off his house, keep working and enjoy life.
He overcame odds of 1 in 800,000 to win $500,000 in the 200X game. The game has ended and is no longer on sale.
Fuel Express in Moncks Corner received a commission of $5,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
