COLUMBIA, SC (March 23, 2022) – An Upstate lottery player tried something new and won $75,000.
It was his first time playing a $3 crossword style ticket, so unsure how much he won he scanned the ticket using the store’s ticket checker. When the message read “Claim at Lottery,” he asked the clerk at the 81 Shell Mart on Hwy. 81 S. in Anderson for help. That’s when he found out he won the ticket’s top prize of $75,000.
“I felt like I was dreaming,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
The winner, who does not wish to be identified, uncovered 11 words to win big on the Crossword Bonus Cash ticket. His win leaves four top prizes of $75,000 remaining in the game at odds of 1 in 600,000.
81 Shell Mart in Anderson received a commission of $750 for selling the claimed ticket.
