“It was overwhelming,” says Midlands $500,000 lottery winner

COLUMBIA, SC (June 12, 2025) – A Midlands lottery winner is taking her $500,000 win and going house hunting.

She won the cash off a $10 scratch-off she picked out at Spann’s Market on Wedgefield Rd. in Sumter. She scanned the ticket in the store. When the message said to “Claim at Lottery,’ she scratched off the rest of her ticket to see why. She says she saw three zeros, then another one and it was too much.

“It was overwhelming,” she told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. “I never thought something like that would happen to me.”

Odds of winning $500,000 in the 100X game are 1 in 1,224,000.  Three top prizes remain in the game.

Spann’s Market in Sumter received a commission of $5,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
