This Fourth of July Easley Mom Celebrates Financial Independence

COLUMBIA, SC (July 6, 2011) – When the fireworks were over, an Easley mom celebrated a new freedom—financial freedom.

With her Fourth of July visitors headed out the driveway, her son sat her down and told her she won $200,000 playing the Lottery. He bought his mom the Palmetto Cash 5 ticket for the July 4 drawing.

She screamed upon hearing the news.

“I still can’t comprehend it,” she said.

The winner did not want to release her name, but told lottery officials she checked her numbers using three different sources. Each confirming 2, 5, 23, 30 and 38 were a match.

She skipped breakfast yesterday morning and had her son drive her to Columbia to cash in the ticket.

“She truly has independence now,” her son told lottery officials.

She also spent the extra $1 for Power-Up. The Power-Up number drawn was a “2,” which doubled her $100,000 winnings to $200,000.

The odds of winning the top prize playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.

Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000. Brushy Creek Food Mart in Easley received $2,000.
