COLUMBIA, SC (October 12, 2011) – Two lottery winners in two days hail from North Charleston.

On Monday, a man won $100,000. The next day, a woman took home $200,000.

Eight miles separate the retailers that sold the tickets.

The Hess Express #40264 at 2685 Ashley Phosphate Rd. sold the $100,000 winning ticket to a North Charleston man, who admits he has a habit of buying tickets and forgetting to scratch them.

He remembered the $5 Instant Carolina 5 ticket over the weekend. He told lottery officials winning $100,000 taxes paid left him speechless.

“I couldn’t get the words out to tell my wife,” he said. “So, I placed the card in her hand.”

She screamed, “I’m buying a Cadillac.”

According to his wife, the ticket was all he could talk about the rest of the weekend.

A 10 minute drive south, Kader Market Inc. at 3543 Dorchester Rd. sold the $200,000 winning ticket. The winner told lottery officials she spent the weekend keeping a close eye on her $10 Big Dollar Doubler ticket. Nervous, she couldn’t eat, sleep or drive.

“I’m taking a vacation,” she said. “I need one.”

Hess Express #40264 received a commission of $1,470. The odds of winning an Instant Carolina 5 top prize are 1 in 500,000. Kader Market Inc. received $2,000 for selling the claimed ticket. The odds of winning $200,000 on Big Dollar Doubler are 1 in 288,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 932,000 college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.5 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
