COLUMBIA, SC (August 29, 2011) – After 26 years of marriage, a Williston couple is going on their honeymoon.
It was the husband’s idea after his wife won $200,000 on a South Carolina Education Lottery ticket.
“I’ve always wanted to go to Alaska,” the winner told lottery officials when she arrived with the $200,000 Cash Inferno scratch-off.
He was thinking some place closer to home, but it’s her decision.
Winning has taken its toll on her. She cried uncontrollably at first. She lost her appetite, couldn’t concentrate to watch television and then couldn’t sleep.
“I still don’t believe it,” she said.
As of this release, one top prize of $200,000 remains in the ten dollar $200,000 Cash Inferno game.
The odds of winning $200,000 are 1 in 504,000.
She purchased the ticket from Gas Plus #3 in Aiken. The retailer received a commission of $2,000 for selling the ticket.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 920,000 college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.5 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
