COLUMBIA, SC (March 14, 2012) – How does it feel to win $1 MILLION?
“It’s crazy,” said the Lottery’s latest millionaire.
The Columbia resident told lottery officials he bought the winning $10 Diamond Millionaire 10th Anniversary ticket from the AM PM Food Mart 5 on Percival Rd. in Columbia over the weekend. He scratched the ticket at the service station and screamed when he beat the 1 in 1.2 million odds to take home the game’s $1 million top prize.
The winner asked not to be identified and couldn’t stop smiling.
"He’s one of our regular customers," store manager Jeff Singh said.
Singh said it was the biggest win ever seen at the convenience store.
"Before that one, I’ve seen a few $2,000 winners," he said.
Lottery sales have also picked up since the station sold the $1 million winning ticket, according to Singh.
"The winner was very excited and our customers are too," Singh said.
The Columbia man is the third $1 million winner to come forward on the Diamond Millionaire 10th Anniversary instant ticket. As of this release, two more $1 million top prizes remain in the game.
AM PM Food Mart 5 received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
To date, the South Carolina Education Lottery has created 66 millionaires.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.6 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
