COLUMBIA, SC (November 2, 2011) – The Powerball® jackpot has rolled to an estimated $245 MILLION for tonight’s drawing.
Saturday’s drawing produced two $10,000 winners in South Carolina. The tickets were sold in Columbia and Belvedere.
“When the jackpot reaches historical levels, it gets attention. Those that don’t play very often take a chance,” said the Lottery’s Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea. “We want to remind everyone to please play responsibly.”
While this jackpot registers in the top 10 Powerball® jackpots of all time, the odds of winning it all are long, about 1 in 195 million.
Powerball® offers two payment options: the $245 million jackpot paid out in 30 installments over 29 years or a one-time cash payment of about $146 million.
“When the jackpot gets high, players win and so does the state,” said Bethea. “Education is always a winner.”
South Carolinians wanting to take a chance on Wednesday night’s drawing must purchase their Powerball® tickets by 9:59 p.m. for the 10:59 p.m. drawing.
Tickets are $1 and are available at lottery retailers statewide.
Players can purchase PowerPlay® for an extra $1 to multiply their non-jackpot winnings by the PowerPlay® number drawn. Match 5 white balls with PowerPlay® to win an automatic $1 million, regardless of the multiplier selected.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than 932,000 college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.5 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
