Married Couple Splits $100,000 Lottery Win

COLUMBIA, SC (August 31, 2012) – A Conway couple says the secret to a long, happy marriage is sharing. Even if it’s only an extra $5, they will each take $2.50. The same rules apply for the $100,000 the husband won this week off a $5 scratch-off.

He purchased the winning Fabulous Fortune scratch-off from the Borderline Mini Mart on Hwy. 321 N. in Clover. When he got home with the ticket, he walked up to his wife and whispered, “I won $100,000.”

“I didn’t want the whole world to hear,” he laughed saying the kids and grandkids were in the house.

The two haven’t told family yet, but have discussed buying a new car, maybe taking a trip and then investing the cash.

“I feel like if you pinch me, I’ll wake up,” said the husband awaiting the check with his wife at the Lottery’s Claims Center in downtown Columbia.

“I’m still trying to wake up from this dream myself,” said his wife.

The odds of winning $100,000 playing Fabulous Fortune are 1 in 480,000. As of this release, four top prizes of $100,000 remain in the $5 game.

For selling the claimed ticket, Borderline Mini Mart in Clover received a commission of $1,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.8 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
