First Time Lottery Player Wins $100,000

COLUMBIA, SC (April 30, 2013) – Beginners luck trumps experience. At least that’s how a Columbia mom sees it.

A longtime player, she had conflicting emotions when her son bought his first ticket and won $100,000.

“I’m not mad at him for winning, he’s my son,” she said, but she can’t help feel a bit envious.

She purchased several tickets at Bucks Market on River Dr. in Columbia and didn’t win any cash. Her son debated whether to spend $5 on a Winning Streak ticket.

He finally decided to take a chance and scratched his first ever ticket in the passenger seat.

“Mom, stop!” he screamed.

She pulled over and looked down at the ticket with the $100,000 prize.

“I had to catch my breath,” she said.

Like any mom, she’s so proud of her son, who she says is good at math and even better at managing his money.

“He’s getting ready for college,” she said bragging. “I won’t have to pay for his car now.”

As of this release, two top prizes of $100,000 remain in the $5 Winning Streak game. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 400,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Bucks Market received a commission of $1,000.

To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3 BILLION transferred to support education.
