Upstate Sees Rash of Lottery Wins

4/16/2013 9:02:16 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (April 16, 2013) – Upstate lottery players are cashing in this month, scratching tickets to win anywhere from $100,000 up to $1 million.

Five top prize winners have won a total of $1.5 million.

The bulk of the prize money was won by a Travelers Rest woman, who cashed in a $1 million winning Money Money Millionaire scratch-off purchased from the Wilco Hess #925 on Poinsette Hwy. in Greenville on April 4.

That same day, a Spartanburg woman confessed she took a $200,000 winning lottery ticket with her to work.

She picked out the Double Mega Tripler ticket the day before at the Spinx Company #162 on W.O. Ezelle Blvd. in Spartanburg. She couldn’t concentrate at work, too busy daydreaming about retirement.

A Liberty man might go ahead and retire with his $100,000 lottery win.

He told lottery officials on April 2 that he rarely buys a ticket but decided to take a chance on a Double-Up Dollars scratch-off at the Plez U Store #3 on Powdersville Rd. in Easley.

Then last Wednesday, the Quick Pantry #92 at 102 Peachoid Rd. in Gaffney sold a Gaffney player an Instant Carolina 5 ticket good for $100,000 taxes paid.

Friday, an Anderson man battling the pollen felt better after winning $100,000. The Right on the Money scratch-off he picked out at the Save More on the Hwy. 28 Byp. in Anderson is going to cover his daughter’s college tuition.

For selling the claimed tickets, these Upstate retailers received a 1 percent commission from the South Carolina Education Lottery.
