Greenville, SC: Violet Nodine can give her granddaughter the welcome home that she deserves. That’s because on Friday, March 21, 2003, the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) awarded Nodine $2,600 for her winnings in Pick 4.

Nodine, who lives in Gastonia, North Carolina, went to the Claims office on Friday to collect her winnings. While there she explained that her money would be used differently than just paying bills.

“I’m going to use that money to throw my granddaughter a welcome home party!” Nodine’s granddaughter has been stationed with the military in Korea. She comes home later this month.

The lucky winner will also use a portion of her money to make a donation to her church in a few family members’ honor.

The winning ticket was purchased from the J & W Suprette at 1025 Pole Branch Road in Lake Wylie.

Since January 2002, the SCEL has transferred more than $225 million to the State Education Lottery Account for distribution according to South Carolina Legislation. The SCEL’s net proceeds pay for specific educational programs, including South Carolina’s HOPE, LIFE and Palmetto Fellows scholarships; the National Guard Scholarship Program; Lottery Tuition Assistance for two-year programs within the state’s university system; a wide range of technical upgrades for state colleges and universities; school buses; local libraries and gambling addiction services.
