Carolina Panthers Gain a New Fan

COLUMBIA, SC (September 28, 2012) – Brandon Martin wasn’t a Carolina Panthers fan until this week.

On his way in to work at Emerson Corporation in Aiken, the Graniteville resident stopped at the Raceway on the Columbia Hwy. and bought a $5 Carolina Panthers instant ticket and scored a $100,000 lottery win.

He called his wife, who also works at Emerson, and the two met in the office’s parking lot.

“I kissed him,” she said greeting him and seeing the ticket for the first time.

The two clocked in together and worked a half day, but the winning ticket proved a distraction. They took off work early and traveled to Columbia to cash in the ticket.

“It’s about time he won,” joked his wife, who kids her husband about buying lottery tickets.

The young couple told lottery officials they will celebrate their three-year wedding anniversary next week and are grateful for the unexpected gift.

“I’m excited to be able to improve my family’s financial condition,” the winner said. “I want this to better my family.”

As of this release, three top prizes remain in the Carolina Panthers game. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 540,000.

For selling the claimed ticket, Raceway in Aiken received a commission of $1,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.8 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
