COLUMBIA, SC (January 10, 2013) – A South Carolina Education Lottery winner’s first act as a millionaire was to change his phone number.
The Chester man won $2 million playing Powerball® and declined to release his name. His identity remains a mystery even to the clerks at the Pantry Express #430 on Columbia St., who sold the winning ticket.
Lottery officials can say the winner was lucky enough to overcome the 1 in 5 million plus odds to match the first five Powerball® numbers drawn on Saturday, December 29 (36, 46, 50, 52, and 55, PB: 14). He was also smart enough to spend the extra $1 for PowerPlay® increasing his would be $1 million prize to $2 million.
The Pantry Express #430 received a commission of $20,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.9 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
