Stop at Kmart Leads Lugoff Woman to $200,000 Lottery Win

COLUMBIA, SC (November 15, 2012) – A Lugoff woman is crediting her guardian angels and Kmart for her $200,000 lottery win.

The angels might have brought her luck, but Kmart’s receipt with a discount coupon for gas led her to the Lugoff BP for a fill up. There she played Palmetto Cash 5.

She bought five rows of numbers. The first four lines she picked herself, a combination of family birth dates. The last line, a quick pick, won it for her.

“I was surprised,” she said. “I’ve been shaking since last night.”

The winner told lottery officials she watched Wednesday evening’s drawing live on television at 6:59 p.m. She jotted the numbers down and when she checked them against her ticket (6, 9, 23, 27, and 33), she couldn’t believe all five were a match.

“This can’t be true,” she thought last night, but today she’s making plans to buy a new car.

Paying the extra $1 for Power-Up multiplied her $100,000 top prize to $200,000.

The odds of winning $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,003,884.

For selling the claimed ticket, the Lugoff BP in Lugoff received a commission of $2,000.

Since the start of the Lottery in 2002, more than one million college scholarships and grants have been awarded to South Carolina’s students. In all, more than $2.9 BILLION has been transferred to support educational programs in the Palmetto State.
