Columbia Man is Third Big Winner in 17 Months at “Obama Gas Station”

COLUMBIA, SC (September 10, 2013) – A local man’s lottery win has the Capitol City once again buzzing about the “Obama Gas Station” on N. Main St.

Reggie Brown Jr. cashed in a $250,000 winning Mega Millions® ticket late yesterday afternoon. He bought the ticket with change he got back from a drink he purchased inside the station after getting off work on Friday.

The onetime Powerball® player admits he switched to the $1 Mega Millions® game over a year ago when the cost to play Powerball® doubled to $2.

Today, he’s convinced that was the right decision.

“Mega Millions® is my favorite game,” he said.

He has one regret. When the clerk asked if he wanted to spend the extra $1 for the Megaplier®, he passed. Had he, the prize would have been $1 million.

Instead, he matched five white ball numbers but missed the Megaball® number to win a quarter-of-a- million dollars (2 - 16 - 17 - 22 - 41 MB: 31 / Megaplier: 4) in the Friday, September 6 drawing.

Brown says he wasn’t aware the “Obama Gas Station” was a hot spot for lottery winners since selling a $2 million Powerball® ticket in April 2012 and a $250,000 Mega Millions® ticket in July 2012.

At lunchtime yesterday a clerk at another store checked his Mega Millions® ticket and told him he had something special. When he looked closer at the numbers he felt his heart race.

“Over the weekend, I had the ticket out in my car that’s not worth $1,000,” he said. “But it’s my former car now.”

The odds of winning the $250,000 prize in Mega Millions are more than 1 in 3.9 million.

Alhanik LLC known as the “Obama Gas Station” received a commission of $2,500.
