COLUMBIA, SC (June 14, 2013) – Eleven, that’s the number of years a Boiling Springs man played the same five lottery numbers.
Sunday evening his patience was rewarded with a $300,000 Palmetto Cash 5 win.
“This is going to change my life,” he said.
He jumped up and screamed when his losing streak came to a close with the drawing of 9, 11, 19, 21 and 30.
“I was pacing through the house trying to calm myself down,” he said.
Monday morning he went to work as planned, which helped take his mind off the ticket locked in his truck in the parking lot. Tuesday, his day off, he drove to Columbia to cash in the ticket
He didn’t tell anyone.
“I play only when I can afford to, and that’s not every drawing,” he told lottery officials. Sunday he was working out in the garage then decided to take a break and ended up buying the winning ticket at the Corner Stop 17 on Boiling Springs Rd.
He’s not retiring his go to numbers. He uses them for Powerball® and Mega Millions® too.
“I’ll play them when I can,” he said.
Spending the extra buck to Power-Up tripled his $100,000 prize to $300,000.
Odds of winning $300,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,606,214.
For selling the claimed ticket, Corner Stop 17 in Spartanburg received a commission of $3,000.
To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3 billion transferred to support education.
