COLUMBIA, SC (March 18, 2014) – A Sunday tradition of buying lottery tickets continues for a Myrtle Beach couple despite winning $200,000.
The husband’s not going to give up playing now that his mix of family anniversaries and birth dates has proven lucky.
“Winning is a crazy feeling and a godsend,” he told lottery officials, confessing that in nine years of buying $40 in Palmetto Cash 5 tickets on Sunday, he’s come close to winning it all on more than a few occasions with 7, 11, 20, 25 and 36.
As for the cash, “my wife has it all figured out,” he joked.
Spending the extra buck to Power-Up doubled his $100,000 prize to $200,000 in the March 5 drawing.
“If you are going to play, you might as well spend that lousy extra dollar,” he advised.
Odds of winning $200,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 1,003,884.
For selling the claimed ticket, Kangaroo Express #3073 in Myrtle Beach received a commission of $2,000.
To date, lottery play has resulted in more than $3.3 billion transferred to support education.
