Lottery Ticket Bought on Friday the 13th Wins Seven Upstate Coworkers $50,000

COLUMBIA, SC (July 19, 2018) – A group of seven office workers in Spartanburg are sharing a $50,000 Powerball® prize.

Before taxes, that’s about $7,000 each.

The group, who’ve played Powerball® together for the last few years, bought the winning ticket on of all days—Friday the 13th.

“I’ve always thought ‘13’ was a lucky number,” said the group’s founding member and chief encourager. “I knew one day we were going to win.”

In Saturday night’s drawing, the ticket they bought at Lucky Express Food Mart on N. Pine St. in Spartanburg matched four of the five white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number (22 - 41 - 42 - 49 - 67 PB: 11) to win $50,000.

It wasn’t until Tuesday, when the group member whose turn it was to buy their ticket had the ticket checked at the store and was told it was worth more than they could cash.

“I sent out a group text saying that we had a winner and asking if anyone was going to Columbia,” the buyer said.

In no time someone responded, “I think we won $50,000!”

Everyone starting chiming in then, with one group member asking, “Will I have to come back to work?” to which everyone answered, “Yes!”

The seven say they’ll continue playing Powerball® together and are confident they’ll win again.

“This win is fun money for us,” they said.

Odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129.

Lucky Express Food Mart in Spartanburg received a commission of $500 for selling the claimed ticket.
