COLUMBIA, SC (November 7, 2025) – A Midlands man spent three days checking and rechecking his lottery ticket, before he was sure he won $100,000.
“I was in disbelief,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
He says he thought his eyes were deceiving him when he scratched the $3 Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword ticket that he bought from the Speedway on N. Lake Dr. in Lexington to win six-figures.
So he put the ticket away in a drawer. The next day he kept opening the drawer to study the ticket. At one point he wrote down every word he had on the crossword ticket and counted them to be sure he had the 11 words needed for win. But he still wasn’t convinced.
On the third day, he got a second opinion. He showed the ticket to a family member, who assured him it was the real deal.
As for his plans for the prize, he says he’s giving to the church and helping his family.
The odds of winning $100,000 playing the $3 Lady Jumbo Bucks Crossword game are 1 in 600,000. Two more top prizes remain in the game.
For selling the claimed ticket, Speedway #02851 in Lexington received a commission of $1,000.
