COLUMBIA, SC (March 25, 2022) – An Upstate lottery player says winning $30,000 nearly stopped his heart.
“I could have used a defibrillator,” he joked with South Carolina Education Lottery officials after he won. “It was shocking.”
He says he was scratching a few $2 tickets while pumping gas at the Murphy USA #6940 on Eighteen Mile Rd. in Central, and when he didn’t win anything decided to buy two more tickets. The second purchase produced the $30,000 win.
The winner, who does not wish to be identified, knew exactly what he was going to do with the prize money.
“It’s a down payment on a new house,” he said.
The Central player beat the 1 in 480,000 odds to win $30,000 in the $2 Electric Cash game. Three more top prizes remain.
Murphy USA #6940 in Central received a commission of $300 for selling the claimed ticket.
