COLUMBIA, SC (December 9, 2022) – A Walterboro man came oh-so close to winning a $1 billion Powerball® jackpot back on October 31. His ticket matched all but one number drawn giving him a $150,000 prize.
“I’m grateful for what I got,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials this week.
He says he bought the ticket, a quick pick, at the Stop N Go Express on Wichman St. in Walterboro because everyone else was buying them. He left the ticket in his car overnight, and when he checked it was speechless.
He matched four of the first five white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number (13 - 19 - 36 - 39 - 59 and PB: 13) drawn on Monday, October 31. Paying an extra dollar for PowerPlay® tripled his $50,000 win to $150,000.
“I paid off my car,” he said.
The odds of winning $50,000 playing Powerball® are 1 in 913,129. The odds of a 3X multiplier being selected are 1 in 3.23 when the jackpot is more than $150 million.
For selling the claimed ticket, Stop N Go Express in Walterboro received a commission of $1,500.
