Over Half a Million Winning Tickets Validated

1/7/2002 11:00:00 PM

Columbia, SC (January 8, 2002) – Scientific Games International has estimated that from launch of sales at 6:00 AM on January 7th through 6:00 PM on January 8th, the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) has successfully validated over half a million winning tickets, totaling nearly two million dollars in prize money awarded.

Occasional errors in the validation of winning tickets over $20 have occurred.  Any player experiencing problems in redeeming a winning ticket should either bring their ticket to one of three SCEL Redemption Centers or mail the ticket, accompanied by a completed official claim form, to: SC Education Lottery, PO Box 11039, Columbia, SC 29211-1039.

The Redemption Centers are located in Mt. Pleasant (537 Long Point Road, Suite 106), Greenville (18 Augusta Road) and Columbia (1901 Main Street, Bank of America Plaza).

“These are just glitches in a very complicated computer system that is validating a large amount of tickets,” said Ernie Passailaigue, SCEL Executive Director.

Scientific Games International has assured the SCEL the problem has been identified and is currently being resolved.
