SCEL LAUNCHES ARTIST SERIES TICKET!
Columbia, SC: The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) launched the Artist Ticket Series at an 11:30 a.m. press conference today, April 6, 2004, in Columbia. The series of $1 tickets includes works from three South Carolina artists selected to represent the three major regions of South Carolina: Upstate, Midlands, and Coastal.
Michael Story of Lexington was chosen to represent the Midlands. His work, Purple Martin Sanctuary, commemorates “the annual migration of purple martins to Bomb Island on Lake Murray every July and August.”
The Coastal region is represented by a work from Jim Booth, a Charleston native. First Light features South Carolina’s historic Morris Island Lighthouse. Booth shared, “First Light helped fund the purchase of the Morris Island lighthouse, and now it will help to fund education for the citizens of South Carolina.”
View from Caesar’s Head completes SCEL’s first Artist Series. The artist responsible for the dynamic work, George “Griff” Griffith, chose to submit a rendering of Caesar’s Head to highlight the Upstate’s beauty. This painting was created specifically for the SCEL ticket series.
Each of the artists has provided a limited number of promotional prints to SCEL as part of their participation in the series. Players will have an opportunity to win one of these prints through a lottery website promotion.
The Artist Ticket Series goes on sale today, April 6. Join us in celebrating the richness of South Carolina’s landscapes. By purchasing these tickets, you will be supporting the programs funded by the South Carolina Education Lottery as we recognize the beauty and artistic talent from South Carolina.
Since January 2002, the SCEL has transferred more than $502 million to the State’s Education Lottery Account for distribution according to South Carolina Legislation. The SCEL’s net proceeds pay for specific educational programs, including South Carolina’s HOPE, LIFE and Palmetto Fellows Scholarships; the National Guard Scholarship Program; Lottery Tuition Assistance for two-year programs within the state’s university system; a wide range of technical upgrades for state colleges and universities; school buses; local libraries and gambling addiction services.
