Plus, SCEL is giving away $1 Million on Thursday in the Carolina Millionaire Promotion

Columbia, SC (October 11, 2004): A South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) player was one number away from winning Saturday night’s Powerball drawing worth more than $214 million. That ticket is worth $100,000 and was sold at Isgett’s Grocery Store in Darlington. The winning jackpot ticket was sold in Delaware.

The $214.7 million jackpot ranks as the sixth largest Powerball jackpot ever, and the tenth largest lottery jackpot all-time. It also ranks as the 5th largest jackpot ever won by a single ticket.

The numbers drawn were: 1, 3, 10, 47, 48 and the Powerball was 27. The Power Play multiplier was 3. SCEL’s winner matched all the white balls, but missed the Powerball number to win the jackpot. Powerball’s jackpot is an estimated $10 million for Wednesday night’s drawing.

Plus, on Thursday, October 14, SCEL will award one person $1 MILLION at the Pepsi Grandstand on the State Fairgrounds. Ten finalists from the Carolina Millionaire Summer Promotion are vying for the million dollars. SCEL received more than 243,000 entries for the Carolina Millionaire Promotion. Each entry had to have $20 worth of non-winning Carolina Millionaire tickets.

The public still has a chance to win with the Carolina Millionaire Promotion. On October 14, anyone who brings in a non-winning Carolina Payout ticket to the Grand Prize Drawing event will be entered into a second-chance drawing and win a Vacation Package for two to the Caribbean. The person also will receive $500 in spending cash.

Plus, on the night of the drawing, the public will enjoy the sounds of Second Nature and Sea Cruz. The two bands are featured on SCEL’s Summer CD, Side of GRITS (Grooves Raised in the South)!

Since January 2002, SCEL has transferred more than $640 million to the State Education Lottery Account for distribution according to South Carolina legislation.
