COLUMBIA, SC (November 16, 2010) – Driving home with a Powerball® ticket worth $1 MILLION on the seat beside her, a Simpsonville woman was admittedly distracted by the possibilities.
She thought of her aging mother’s changing needs, her grandson’s future college costs and her retirement. All worries before, now relieved. “It is a wonderful feeling,” she said.
Standing in a lottery retailer on Woodruff Rd. she learned she was a millionaire when the clerk scanning the ticket announced, “You’ve won something big,” followed up with “I think you’ve won $1 million.” The winner’s immediate thought was “let me sign this ticket and get out of this store.”
Once home, she put her car keys away and called her sister to drive her to claim the prize. “I am so grateful,” she told lottery officials. “My sister and I are going out for ribs tonight to celebrate.”
The 56-year-old winner, who requested her name not be released, only purchases Powerball® tickets from her favorite store, The Spinx Company Inc. #193 in Simpsonville. She always asks for a quick pick with PowerPlay®.
Purchasing PowerPlay® for an additional $1 meant her initial $200,000 winnings were multiplied to $1 MILLION. The millionaire making ticket for the Saturday, November 13 drawing matched all five white ball numbers drawn (17, 30, 48, 51, and 54 PB 29) but missed the red Powerball®.
More than 13,000 players who purchased tickets in South Carolina were winners of amounts between $3 up to the $1 MILLION Match 5 prize. The estimated jackpot for Wednesday’s Powerball® drawing is $35 million.
For selling the ticket, The Spinx Company Inc. #193 received $10,000. Every retailer that sells a claimed ticket of $10,000 or more earns a 1 percent retailer commission, capped at $50,000.
