COLUMBIA, SC (October 8, 2015) – Five numbers a Greenville man picked out of thin air have won him a $1 million Powerball® prize.
The odds of that happening are about 1 in 5.2 million.
The winner says he’s parlaying that luck into retirement.
“I’m going to have a little fun too,” he said.
It was late Sunday night when he checked the Powerball® ticket he bought at the Piedmont Petro Corner Mart #38 at 2705 White Horse Rd. in Greenville for Saturday’s drawing.
With an ink pen he underlined the numbers that matched on his ticket, and when he was done five numbers in a row 6, 26, 33, 44, and 46 were underscored. He missed the jackpot by failing to match the Powerball® number of 4.
“I woke my wife up to tell her,” he said. “We didn’t sleep after that.”
Yesterday, on his day off, he traveled to Columbia with his wife, daughter and granddaughter to cash in the million dollar ticket.
“I’ve never been a millionaire before,” he said. “My wife is jumping for joy.”
For selling the claimed ticket, Piedmont Petro Corner Mart #38 in Greenville received a commission of $10,000.
