COLUMBIA, SC (February 1, 2017) – In a stack of old lottery tickets, a Georgia woman found a South Carolina Education Lottery Powerball® ticket worth $100,000.
The winner says she discovered the ticket last week while cleaning up. She started checking the tickets she’d saved and separating the winners from the losers. In addition to the $100,000 win, she found other winning tickets from Georgia and South Carolina that totaled $30.
“My New Year’s resolution was to not let stuff pile up,” she said, relieved she found the ticket before time ran out to claim the prize.
She bought the Powerball® ticket back in September at the Mit Food Mart on W. Georgia Rd. in Simpsonville while visiting family in the Upstate. The ticket matched five of the six numbers drawn to win $50,000 in the September 10, 2016, drawing (3 - 17 - 49 - 55 – 68 PB: 8). PowerPlay® multiplied her prize to $100,000.
The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number are 1 in 913,129. The odds of a 2X multiplier being selected are 1 in 1.75.
Players have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.
For selling the claimed ticket, Mit Food Mart in Simpsonville received a commission of $1,000.
The estimated jackpot for tonight’s drawing is $206 million.
