COLUMBIA, SC (December 8, 2020) – An Easley husband and wife agree on one thing—that’s how to spend a $125,000 lottery prize.
“We paid off the house,” the husband told South Carolina Education Lottery officials, who caught up with the winner a few days after cashing in his ticket.
The husband says deciding how to spend the winnings was the easy part. Convincing his wife he actually won wasn’t so simple.
She thought her husband was joking when he called to tell her he scratched off a six-figure win a Carolina Black Ruby ticket he’d purchased from the Hot Spot #4002 on JC Calhoun Memorial Hwy. in Easley. He was home alone when he scratched the ticket, and his wife headed back to the house after their call ended.
“She didn’t believe me at first,” the husband said, adding that changed when his wife got home and asked to see the ticket for herself.
Two top prizes of $125,000 remain in the ($5) Carolina Black Ruby game at odds of 1 in 720,000.
Hot Spot #4002 in Easley received a commission of $1,250 for selling the claimed ticket.
