Midlands Convenience Store Becoming a Lucky Spot to Play the Lottery

COLUMBIA, SC (January 13, 2021) – A Midlands convenience store is proving to be a lucky spot to play the Lottery after two of its customers won six-figures. The lucky destination is Jimmy’s Mart on Two Notch Rd. in Columbia.

A Midlands woman won $25,000 a year for LIFE playing Lucky for Life and a Midlands man won $100,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5—both winners quick picked their numbers only days apart at the store in December.

“I’ve been playing the Lottery for years at Jimmy’s Mart,” said the Lucky for Life winner, who chose the one-time cash payment of $390,000 over the $25,000 a year for LIFE prize.

The winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that after buying the ticket she went on vacation. She returned home nine days later and stopped by Jimmy’s Mart to check her ticket. She matched the first five numbers drawn (2, 15, 40, 44, and 47) but missed the Lucky Ball number (12) in the Thursday, December 24 drawing.

“I laughed,” she said when the clerk told her she won big. “I wished her a Happy New Year, grabbed the ticket, ran to my car and went home.”

The Palmetto Cash 5 winner says he stayed pretty calm when he won $100,000 off a ticket bought at Jimmy’s Mart. He realized he won the morning after the Tuesday, December 22 drawing (6, 8, 9, 20, and 23) when he was getting a ticket for the next drawing.

“I play every day,” he said. “I’m still playing.”

For selling the claimed tickets, Jimmy’s Mart in Columbia received commissions of $3,900 and $1,000.

The odds of winning $25,000 a year for life are 1 in 1,813,028. The odds of winning $100,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.

Other recent wins at the store include a $1,000 Mega Millions® win, a $7,700 Pick 4 win, a $602 Palmetto Cash 5 win and a $1,000 win on a $300,000 Riches scratch-off.
