Columbia, SC: Today the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) successfully launched its newest on-line game, Pick 4. Players will now have the chance to win up to $5,000 dollars nightly.
“According to our gaming system, we are taking in almost as many sales for Pick 4 as we are for Pick 3,” said Tony Cooper, the SCEL’s chief operating officer.
Pick 4 is played much like Pick 3. Players choose a four-digit combination from 0000 to 9999.
Like Pick 3, with Pick 4 the player can bet 50 cents or $1 per play. The player may also select his or her numbers days before the draw and play their numbers up to seven times. Or, players may mark “quick pick” for a random selection of numbers.
There are four different ways a player can play their four-digit numbers:
• Straight -- Match winning numbers in exact order drawn.
• Box: -- Match winning numbers drawn in any order. The number of boxes (4, 6, 12 or 24) is determined by the number of different digits in your selection.
• Straight/Box -- Combines a 50 cents straight play and a 50 cents box play for a four-digit number on a single play. The straight/box may only be played for $1.
• Combo Play -- Equal to 4, 6, 12 or 24 straight plays for 50 cents each or $1 each. The player wins $2,500 or $5,000 if they match the winning number drawn in any order. The 24 combo play could cost up to $24 dollars.
If no play type is specified, it will default to a straight play.
Players are encouraged to use the Pick 4 play slip to select their four-digit combination and make a heavy mark in the appropriate boxes on each play area.
“The smooth launch of Pick 4 is indicative of the expertise that our staff has developed over the past year,” said Cooper.
The Pick 3 and Pick 4 drawings will broadcast each night at 6:59 p.m. Lottery players can watch their winning numbers drawn on the following television stations: WLTX in Columbia, WSPA in Greenville/Spartanburg, WPDE in Myrtle Beach/Florence and WCBD in Charleston.
Tickets may not be sold to a person under the age of 18 years.
Since January 2002, the SCEL has returned more than $178 million to the State of South Carolina’s Lottery Education Fund.
