COLUMBIA, SC (February 8, 2024) Scratching off a $1 MILLION win on a lottery ticket had a Newberry man’s heart racing.

“I nearly had a heart attack,” he said.

The millionaire told South Carolina Education Lottery officials that it was early in the morning, the sun hadn’t come up yet, when he stopped in at the Pops #780 on Wilson Rd. in Newberry and bought the $10 ticket that has changed his life. While the sight of a $1 million prize was almost too much for him, he says he feels great after cashing it in.

“It’s a blessing,” he said. “It’s going toward retirement.”

One more top prize of $1 million remains in $1,000,000 Riches game at odds of 1 in 1,350,000.

Pops #780 in Newberry received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.

Players can enter their non-winning ($10) $1,000,000 Riches tickets into a second-chance drawing for a chance to win $1 million. For complete details on the $1,000,000 Riches Second-Chance Promotion, please visit sceducationlottery.com.
