NEW Mega Millions® Game Rolls Out Tonight

10/22/2013 9:19:56 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (October 22, 2013) – A first draw for the new Mega Millions® game debuts tonight and has players expecting faster growing jackpots and more millionaires.

The once-dominant Mega Millions® brand is looking to boost its popularity the same way Powerball® did with changes it made in 2012 when the ticket price doubled to $2.

The cost of a Mega Millions® ticket will remain $1.

The difference being your dollar buys a starting jackpot of $15 million up from $12 million with increased odds of 1 in 259 million.

Instead of winning $250,000, players matching five white ball numbers will now win $1 million, possibly $5 million if they spend the extra dollar for Megaplier®.

The overall structure of the game changed with the addition of more white ball numbers, 75 instead of 56, and fewer Megaball® choices, 15 down from 46.

While high tier prizes will have higher odds, odds of winning lower prizes improved. Overall odds of winning are 1 in 15.

Lottery players in South Carolina can weigh in on the changes tonight by purchasing a Mega Millions® ticket for the $55 million jackpot. Tickets must be purchased by 10 p.m. for tonight’s drawing at 11.
