COLUMBIA, SC (January 7, 2015) – With no winner in Wednesday night’s Powerball® drawing, Saturday’s draw just got a lot more interesting.

Someone stands to win an unprecedented $675 million and lay claim to the largest jackpot in U.S. history.

That’s a $413 million cash payout for whoever can overcome odds of 1 in 293 million.

The Education Lottery urges players to play smart by playing responsibly and to safeguard your prize by signing the back of your ticket.

“While it’s fun to imagine what it would be like to win a life changing jackpot, don’t forget what’s important,” said SC Lottery Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea. “Buying one ticket is as good as buying 20. Play in moderation and certainly do not spend money you don’t have or need for more important uses.”

In last night’s drawing more than 100,000 players in South Carolina won prizes from $4 up to $50,000.

Ticket sales leading up to Saturday’s drawing are expected to be strong nationally, meaning the jackpot will likely escalate even larger as the drawing nears.

Saturday’s jackpot already shattered the record previously set by Mega Millions, when a $656 million jackpot captivated the nation in March of 2012. Powerball’s® previous record was a $590 million jackpot won in May of 2013.

Tickets for Saturday’s $675 million jackpot are available at lottery retailers statewide. Tickets cost $2, and in South Carolina must be purchased by 9:59 p.m. for Saturday’s 10:59 p.m. drawing.

Good luck, South Carolina! Please Play Responsibly!
