COLUMBIA, SC (March 28, 2025) – A Midlands Gamecock fan has scored a $200,000 win on the school’s scratch-off.
And he has his wife to thank for it.
She asked him to buy her a lottery ticket while filling up their car at the Murphy Express on Ricky Ln. in Columbia.
“I got her a ticket,” he told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. “Then I asked if they had the Carolina card.”
The avid Gamecock fan bought himself a $5 Carolina Jackpot ticket. He scratched it, but says he wasn’t 100 percent sure he won. So the couple took the ticket to the Lottery’s Claims Center, when the win was confirmed and the ticket was cashed.
They plan to save the prize money.
The odds of winning $200,000 in the Carolina Jackpot game are 1 in 520,000. The game is no longer available for sale.
For selling the claimed ticket, Murphy Express #8538 in Columbia received a commission of $2,000.
