8/21/2007 1:08:14 PM

An Orangeburg area man who just claimed a $300,000 prize from the South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) wants to keep his identity private, but he’s more than happy to share his story!

The 57-year-old man used the quickpick option to choose his winning numbers playing Palmetto Cash 5. He sensibly purchased the Power-Up option and multiplied his winnings by three bringing the total payoff to $300,000!

“I’m a longtime lottery player,” the winner said. “I’ve been playing the South Carolina Education Lottery since it started,” he added. “I always play the online games like Palmetto Cash 5, Pick 3 and Pick 4 and I always use the quickpick option.”

The lucky man will take home more than $180,000 after taxes. He isn’t sure how he’ll spend his winnings but he does plan on taking a well deserved vacation with his wife of 31 years.

The winning numbers in the Monday August 13th Palmetto Cash 5 drawing were 1, 6, 8, 20, 34 and the Power-Up multiplier was 3. The odds of winning a top prize in Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942.

Since its inception in 2002, the support the South Carolina Education Lottery has received from players and retailers is responsible for the General Assembly appropriating more than $1.7 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2008.
