Greer Man Credits an Act of Kindness for his $1 Million Lottery Win

COLUMBIA, SC (June 8, 2016) – A Greer man says an act of kindness led to his $1 million lottery win.

A woman outside the QuikTrip #1134 on Woodruff Rd. in Greenville was asking for money, and our winner gave her the cash leftover in his wallet after he purchased a bottle of water and a Powerball® ticket. That ticket later won him a $1 million prize.

“The blessing came back to me,” he explained.

But that’s not the only coincidence.

He didn’t ask the clerk at the QuikTrip for a Powerball® ticket. He asked for a Mega Millions® ticket, but the clerk gave him Powerball® instead. And he’s glad he took it.

A post he saw on a local news station’s app saying a ticket worth $1 million was sold at that location reminded him of the ticket.

“Right then, I knew I won it,” he said.

He ran out to his truck to get the ticket and says he started shaking as he confirmed the numbers were a match for the drawing on Saturday, May 28 (6, 33, 34, 58, 59 and PB: 12). He called his wife, but she thought he was joking.

“We’re not going to retire,” he laughed. “But our kids will go wherever they want to college.”

The odds of winning $1 million playing Powerball® are about 1 in 11.6 million.

For selling the claimed ticket, QuikTrip#1134 in Greenville received a commission of $10,000.

The Powerball® jackpot for tonight’s drawing is an estimated $123 million.

Good luck, South Carolina!
