COLUMBIA, SC (March 17, 2021) – A Columbia couple didn’t rush to cash in their winning lottery ticket. They took time to plan for the $200,000 windfall.
“It was a surreal moment,” the wife said, describing winning.
She says she got home from running errands and sat down at the kitchen table to scratch the South Carolina Education Lottery ticket she purchased for $5 at the Kangaroo Express #3837 at 941 Longtown Rd. in Columbia. She called her husband over to take a second look at the Cash Blowout ticket.
“At first we didn’t know what to do,” she said.
The couple decided to meet with an accountant to discuss their plans for the prize money.
“We wanted to do the right thing and proceed with common sense,” the wife said. “We’ve worked hard our whole life and this is wonderful.”
The winner overcame odds of 1 in 660,000 to win $200,000 in the Cash Blowout game. Three top prizes remain in the game.
Kangaroo Express #3837 in Columbia received a commission of $2,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
