In a Lottery First, Pick 4 Player Wins $304,000

COLUMBIA, SC (September 22, 2016) – A Florence woman won big, real big, playing Pick 4.

This week, she cashed in winning tickets worth a combined $304,000. It’s the largest Pick 4 payout to a single individual in the South Carolina Education Lottery’s history.

How’d she do it?

The winning combination was her mom’s birth date, 1 – 1 – 4 – 3, drawn the evening of September 17.

She played those numbers 30 times.

Ten times she played her numbers straight, betting $5 each time to win $250,000. Twenty times she played her numbers straight/box, betting $1 each time to win $54,000. She spent $70 on Pick 4 tickets that amounted to a $304,000 payday.

The winner says that’s her strategy for winning and has been on and off for two years. But she was still surprised.

“I screamed,” she said when her numbers were drawn.

She told lottery officials she wasn’t feeling well that day and wasn’t going to play her numbers, when something told her to get up.

“It just came across me,” she said. “Now this gives me a chance to help other people.”

She plans to keep playing but try her children’s birth dates next.

Now that the prize is paid, Cruizers on E. Palmetto St. in Florence receives a $3,040 commission for selling the claimed tickets.
