Rock Hill Painter Wins $100,000
5/24/2011 8:26:40 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (May 24, 2011) – A Rock Hill painter called his daughter from the roadside to say he won $100,000 playing Palmetto Cash 5.

“I know people driving by were looking at me wondering what was wrong,” said the winner.

He pulled over to safely compare his Palmetto Cash 5 numbers to the numbers drawn on Friday night. All five numbers (4, 6, 18, 28 and 32) matched.

His teenage daughter was thrilled. She has her heart set on a car.

“She’s got me wrapped around her finger,” said the father.

“Knowing that my family is smiling and happy is the nicest thing I can do for myself,” he added.

The odds of winning the top prize playing Palmetto Cash 5 are 1 in 501,942. Had the winner “Powered-Up” for an extra $1, his $100,000 winnings would have doubled to $200,000.

There have been 14 winners of the $100,000 top prize in Palmetto Cash 5 since January 1, 2011. Eight of these winners “Powered-Up” to multiply their winnings by the Power-Up multiplier.

The H&H Mart in the winner’s hometown received $1,000, a 1 percent retailer commission paid on the claimed ticket.

Approximately 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery is returned to the state in the form of funding for education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services.
