COLUMBIA, SC (April 21, 2008) – On a whim, a New York resident visiting the Santee area bought a Powerball® ticket for the April 16 drawing. That impulse paid off to the tune of $100,000!
“It took a while for the news to sink it,” said the winner, who chooses not to be identified. “My dad had my ticket and told me over the phone I had won some money,” she said. The winner correctly matched four white ball numbers, plus the red Powerball® number. She also purchased the PowerPlay® option.
During the month of April, Powerball® players who purchase the PowerPlay® option have the chance to multiply their non-jackpot winnings up to 10 times. For the PowerPlay 10X promotion one of the “5’s” on the PowerPlay® wheel is replaced with a “10.”
“I knew there was a PowerPlay® promotion going on. And when I play Powerball®, I also spend the extra dollar for PowerPlay®,” the winner said. “I’ll have fun spoiling my family with the money I won!”
The winning white ball numbers were 11, 16, 18, 21, and 51. The red Powerball was 16 and the PowerPlay® was 10. The winner multiplied her $10,000 prize by 10 to $100,000. The winning ticket was purchased at R&M Enterprises in Summerton.
