Man Claims $200,000 Jolly Jackpot Top Prize!
11/2/2007 9:11:28 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (November 2, 2007) – The holidays came early for a Columbia area man when he scratched the winning numbers in the South Carolina Education Lottery’s (SCEL) instant game Jolly Jackpot to reveal a top prize of $200,000!

The lucky man wished to remain anonymous but was happy to tell lottery officials about his winning experience. He says he bought the Jolly Jackpot ticket because he felt the urge to try the new game. Jolly Jackpot is one of five holiday tickets launched just last week.

“This can’t be real,” the winner said. “I just started screaming when it finally hit me that I had won $200,000!”

The 42-year-old man says winning $200,000 still seemed unreal until he went to the Columbia Claims Center to collect his prize.

“I’ve been working three jobs. The money will allow me to cut back my hours and focus on my career,” the winner said. “I also plan to continue helping my grandmother whom I’ve been taking care of.”

A modest man, he doesn’t consider himself lucky since winning the Jolly Jackpot top prize. He’s a frequent lottery player who just enjoys the entertainment SCEL’s tickets offer players.

The winning ticket was sold at Parklane Amoco in Columbia.

Since its inception in 2002, the South Carolina Education Lottery has launched more than 220 instant games and five online games. Currently, SCEL offers approximately 30 instant games and four online games at more than 3,500 lottery retailers statewide. Traditionally, SCEL produces an average of four new games each month in a variety of themes, play styles, and price points of $1 - $10. During the past five years, the support the South Carolina Education Lottery has received from players and retailers is responsible for the General Assembly appropriating more than $1.74 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2008.
