COLUMBIA, SC (October 15, 2007) – A Charleston resident who just cashed in a $100,000 prize playing South Carolina Education Lottery’s Palmetto Cash 5 isn’t sure how he’ll spend his new fortune. The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, matched all five numbers in the drawing on September 27.

“I had a hunch I’d won something,” he said. “The first person I told was the store clerk.” The 45-year-old man used the quick pick option to choose his numbers. He plans to use his winnings to make some home repairs and possibly buy a new car. The winner purchased his lucky ticket at Russell’s Exxon in Charleston.

Palmetto Cash 5 is a five-number game with four ways to win prizes from $1 up to $100,000. Players have the option of spending an extra dollar per play for the chance to multiply all prizes by the POWER-UP number drawn 2, 3, 4, or 5 times. The price of each play is $1. Purchasing the POWER-UP multiplier option increases the price for each play from $1 to $2. Drawings are held Monday through Friday at 6:59 p.m., and are televised live on local stations. In the Charleston area, drawings are televised on WCBD-TV2.

Since its inception in 2002, the South Carolina Education Lottery has launched more than 220 instant games and five online games. Currently, SCEL offers approximately 30 instant games and four online games at more than 3,500 lottery retailers statewide. Traditionally, SCEL produces an average of four new games each month in a variety of themes, play styles, and price points of $1 - $10. During the past five years, the support the South Carolina Education Lottery has received from players and retailers is responsible for the General Assembly appropriating more than $1.74 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2008.
