9/25/2007 7:36:50 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (September 25, 2007 ) – The South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) proudly announces the grand opening of the new Columbia Claims Center on Thursday, September 27, 2007, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1309 Assembly Street in downtown Columbia.

“We are excited to officially mark the opening of our newest Claims Center,” said Ernie Passailaigue, Executive Director of SCEL. “This Claims Center reflects a fresher environment for our players when they step inside to claim their prizes. Our staff of professionals is on hand to also answer any questions about the Lottery, our games and our continuing support of education.”

To help celebrate the new surroundings, SCEL is inviting players to bring in five non-winning tickets and spin the prize wheel loaded with many exciting, promotional treasures between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Lottery is also offering a second-chance drawing for additonal prizes.

SCEL staffs four Claims Centers around the Palmetto State in Columbia, Charleston, Fort Mill and Greenville. Prizes up to and including $500 may be redeemed at any lottery retailer. All prizes of $100,000 or less can be redeemed by mail or at one of the Claims Centers. Winnings more than $100,000 up to $1,000,000 must be claimed in person at one of SCEL’s four Claims Centers. Winnings greater than $1,000,000 must be redeemed in person at the Columbia Redemption Center only.

Since its inception in 2002, the support the South Carolina Education Lottery has received from players and retailers is responsible for the General Assembly appropriating more than $1.74 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2008.
