LORIS MAN CLAIMS $400,000 POWERBALL PRIZE!
8/7/2007 2:51:05 PM

Roger Floyd of Loris, SC was sitting in his rural South Carolina home and had just finished watching the Saturday, August 4, Powerball drawing, when he realized the numbers on his ticket looked like the Powerball numbers on the television screen. But because the numbers flashed so quickly he couldn’t be sure. So the 63-year-old checked the South Carolina Education Lottery’s (SCEL) website, www.sceducationlottery.com, and marked off the numbers one by one. Floyd couldn’t believe what he was seeing! He correctly matched all five white numbers and the PowerPlay option which meant he was a big winner…. $400,000 big!

“I felt so relieved,” Floyd said. “I said to myself, thank God, now my retirement is finally secure.”

Floyd, a truck driver, plans on enjoying some of his winnings by taking a well deserved vacation. “My girlfriend, Eula, and I have been talking about an Alaskan cruise for a long time,” he said. “Now we can make it happen for real!”

So how did Floyd come up with the correct five numbers? He let the computer do the picking for him with the quick pick option. Floyd bought his winning ticket at the Homewood Depot on Highway 701 North in Conway.

The August 4 Powerball drawing was worth an estimated $123,000,000! The white numbers were 2, 23, 24, 27, and 36. The red Powerball was 3 and the PowerPlay was 2.

Another $400,000 winning ticket was sold in Chester, South Carolina. Across the Palmetto State, 37,951 players won $1,065,618.

The next Powerball drawing will be held on Wednesday, August 7. The jackpot is worth an estimated $141,000,000!

Since its inception in 2002, the support the South Carolina Education Lottery has received from players and retailers is responsible for the General Assembly appropriating more than $1.7 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2008.
