1/22/2007 9:10:24 AM

COLUMBIA, SC (January 19, 2007): Curtis Atkinson, of McBee, was in total shock after checking his Powerball® ticket for Wednesday night’s drawing.

“I got the printout of the winning numbers,” Atkinson said. “I was checking them at home and realized I was a winner.”

Atkinson quick picked his numbers at Circle B, located at 1105 Lakeview Boulevard in Hartsville.

“I can’t tell you what was going through my mind,” said Atkinson. “I was trying to figure out how many [numbers] I had on there.”

The estimated Powerball® jackpot for Wednesday, January 17, 2007, was $185 million. The winning white ball numbers were: 16, 35, 49, 50, and 52. The red Powerball® number was 31. Atkinson had every number right except for the Powerball® number to win $200,000.

“It is a tremendous feeling knowing you were one number away from what I could have had,” Atkinson said.

Atkinson plans to share his winnings with his three children and four grandchildren.

“I thank the good Lord that I can take care of myself and, now I can take care of them,” added Atkinson.

The estimated Powerball® jackpot for Saturday, January 20, 2007, is $205 million. This is the 13th largest jackpot in Powerball®’s history.
