COLUMBIA, SC: The flurry of Carolina Millionaire Raffle winners continues to flow into all four of the South Carolina Education Lottery’s (SCEL) Claims Centers since the announcement of the winning numbers late Monday, January 8, 2007. One excited Georgetown couple decided to wait a day for their nerves to calm and then collect one of the four $1 million top prizes.

“I usually go to bed early,” said 70 year-old Margaret Davis, of Andrews. “Our phone kept ringing last night. I finally closed my eyes around midnight.”

And even then, Davis’ sleep was scarce. “I kept getting up to check on the ticket and make sure it was still there.”

Davis and her husband Lee will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary later this month. “This is the best gift the good Lord could have given us,” said Margaret Davis. “I just want to thank Him and my brother Harry.”

It was Harry Stafford, of Andrews, who purchased the Carolina Millionaire Raffle ticket for Margaret Davis. “He realized my ticket was a winner and called me over to his house,” said Margaret Davis. “He’s an honest brother and I love him.”

The Davises, whose ticket was purchased at Winyah One Stop in Georgetown, do not have immediate plans for their newfound wealth except to give some to their church.

The three other South Carolinians holding a Carolina Millionaire Raffle ticket worth $1 million have all claimed their prizes but have requested the Lottery withhold their names. The winners live in Greenville, Gaffney and Orangeburg.

Several SCEL players holding Carolina Millionaire Raffle tickets worth $10,000 and $1,000 are continuing to claim their prizes. The two $100,000 Carolina Millionaire Raffle tickets are still unclaimed. The $100,000 tickets were both sold in Myrtle Beach. In all, 766 winning raffle numbers were drawn giving the Carolina Millionaire Raffle a $5.5 million prize pool.
