10/20/2006 10:42:07 AM

Both prizes are won through SCEL’s Summer Promotion

COLUMBIA, SC: Wendell Hughes, of Fort Mill, is South Carolina’s newest millionaire thanks to the South Carolina Education Lottery! On Thursday, October 19, his key unlocked the trunk to a 2006 Ford Mustang® convertible with a MILLION DOLLARS inside.

“I can’t believe it,” said Hughes. “I don’t know what to say.”

Hughes, a single parent of two teenage boys, is in law enforcement. “I plan to use the money for their college education.”

To enter SCEL’s Million Dollar Second-Chance promotion, players had to mail $20 worth of non-winning tickets in any combination of the following games: Mustang Money, Money Clip, Lucky Horse Shoe Cash, and Cash Explosion. SCEL received more than 111,000 entries. For total of that amount, three second-chance drawings. Three finalists were selected from the pool of second-chance drawing winners. The finalists were:

Chuck Godwin, of Charleston
Wendell Hughes, of Fort Mill
Kimberley Keller, of Ridge Spring

Each contestant won a 2006 Ford Mustang Convertible. Only Hughes walked away with a million dollars.

“Today is my son’s birthday,” said Hughes. “He turned 17-years old.” But when asked if he would give the car to his son, “I’m gonna have to think about that one,” Hughes responded.
